When it comes to video games, consoles like Sony’s PlayStation, Microsoft’s Xbox and Nintendo are top of the heap around the globe except for China. This is because the Chinese government put a ban on video game consoles back in 2000 and since then people in the country are not able to get their hands on gaming console that are easily available in other parts of the world. The Chinese government placed the ban due to fears about the negative effects of video games on the physical and mental development of young children.

In spite of this ban, the spirit of playing video games has not die in China and people have started using other means to play games including PCs, tablets, mobile phones and pirated games. However, now it seems that the Chinese government has decided to review its decision of banning the gaming consoles, as a government source shared this information with China Daily, a state-run newspaper:

“We are reviewing the policy and have conducted some surveys and held discussions with other ministries on the possibility of opening up the game console market. However, since the ban was issued by seven ministries more than a decade ago, we will need approval from all parties to lift it.”

If China removes the ban on gaming consoles then, it is expected that the world’s most populated country would be able to create a noteworthy impact on the sales of the technology. Especially as the launch of the next generation gaming consoles like Xbox and PlayStation is around the corner.
