Although rumours of a 10” BlackBerry tablet were eventually shot down last year, it appears that photographic evidence indicates a change of heart for Waterloo’s largest tech company. According to Vietnamese tech blog Tinhte, a 10” PlayBook has surfaced in the Asian country, and the device is a big brother version of the 7” model we are familiar with.
The decision to develop the larger tablet is no different than Apple’s decision to take on the 7” market and Amazon’s reported repertoire of various sized Kindles that will be coming over the next year. As the devices gain greater traction (millions of units’ worth) within society, it is becoming clearer that one tablet size does not fit all.
According to our Vietnamese friends, the 10” device features similar specifications to the standard sized model save for an optimized screen ratio that is more similar to the iPad than the smaller PlayBook. The device features a 7,250 mAh battery as well as a SIM holder and cellular radio. It is also expected (and sincerely hoped) that the PlayBook is 4G compatible, a jump the company will be making soon at the 7” level. The photographed device features a 4G moniker, however the truth remains to be seen.
What we do expect however is some sort of response from the company following the leaked photographs and device specs. Taking the time to peruse the photos, there is little denying that the device in question is cut from the same cloth (albeit a bigger piece) than the 7” PlayBook.
