Taiwan based manufacturer, Acer Inc, is well-known for producing affordable laptops and PCs but has been unable to make a mark in the growing tablet market. With competitors like Google, Apple and Amazon carving out their niches in the sector Acer is looking to make an impact with its Iconia B1 tablet which is expected to be released in early 2013. The new product from Acer is expected to draw consumers with its $99 price. With the release of its latest and most affordable tablet Acer is looking to give a rough time to the already available slates from Google and Amazon rather than Apple’s high end iPad.

The new Iconia tablet came to light when Acer submitted a request with the FCC, the American telecom regulatory body, for the approval of a 1.2 GHz dual-core slate. It was also been reported by the Wall Street Journal that this upcoming Iconia tablet from Acer is similar to its predecessor, the Iconia A110.

The low-priced tablet boasts other features like 8GB of internal storage along with a microSD card slot, RAM of 512MB, 1024×600 pixel screen with GPS and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. As far as the OS is concerned it is anticipated that the slate will be running on Android 4.1.2.

Prior to this Acer has already released different tablets under its Iconia series, but the upcoming device is going to be the cheapest of all, as the competition in the tablet market is quite ruthless. Due to this reason, proceeds for hardware makers is growing thinner because they are forced to produce low-priced devices which have a very slight margin of profit.
