iPhone In Canada reported on October 25 that Air Canada had silently introduced Passbook integration for boarding passes. The site now reports that Air Canada has also gone ahead and updated its iPhone app on October 26 to include updates for iOS 6, iPhone 5 and Passbook. The latest upgraded app from Air Canada is Version 3.7 and is now available to all customers for download on the iTunes store.
IPhone In Canada quotes the following upgrades in its article about the new Air Canada Mobile App:
“PASSBOOK INTEGRATION: Air Canada’s Electronic Boarding Pass is now Passbook enabled! Just check-in on your mobile device, online or at an airport kiosk like you do today. If you’re eligible for an Electronic Boarding Pass and are using an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 6 you’ll receive the Passbook version.
IPHONE 5 & iOS 6 SUPPORT: We’ve added support for the iPhone 5’s screen size and made many tweaks to ensure the app runs smoothly on iOS 6.
PULL TO REFRESH: Pull down the list to refresh your flight, vacation and cargo information.”
The Passbook is a move by Apple to revolutionize the way users make and store purchases like airline tickets, loyalty cards and coupons. The digital wallet was released as part of the new iOS 6 operating system that was made available to the public right after the much anticipated launch of the iPhone5. Air Canada’s latest mobile application update comes after Porter Airlines became the first air carrier in Canada to utilize Passbook.
