For the past couple of months several rumours regarding the development of a fifth generation of Apple’s iPad have been amusing the tech world. Sources claim that the design of this forthcoming tablet will be quite similar to the iPad mini. According to rumors, the device will be slimmer than its predecessors and the edges will also be chamfered. Color combinations will be white/silver and black/slate which is similar to the iPad mini. Now 9to5Mac has revealed that they have “received an unverified image from a purported China-based iPad accessories maker,” which is showing the back plate of the next gen iPad. Although, this is not the first time that a prototype back plate of Apple’s future product has popped up on the internet and the first pictures of the current iPhone 5’s back plates also appeared online around five months prior to its release.
This is the very first image of the next gen iPad if it is real. Plus it has confirmed the aforementioned rumours regarding the slate were true. As 9to5Mac also made it known that they were told the image is showing a prototype back of 5th gen iPad with a 9.7-inch screen and the casing is as slim as iPad mini’s rear cover. In addition to this, the new image itself has given more clues about the fifth generation of iPad, such as the back antenna cut in the casing is indicating that it would be an LTE model. Although, it cannot be said for sure that this is a legitimate image, but the back plate in this image resembles Apple’s iPad a lot.
However, not all the rumours regarding next gen iPad were true, as latest report says that this new slate will make its debut around October 2013 and that its launch has been delayed. The most possible reason behind this delay could be the release of the 128 GB variant of the current iPad. This was also identified by John Gruber, who said that, “If this 128 GB iPad 4 thing is true, I take it to imply that the iPad 5 isn’t coming until later in the year, and that this is a way for Apple to make a little news, keep the lineup fresh, and raise the bar on tablet storage capacities.”
