Many news outlets’ front pages around New York City and the world were actively reporting on the recent iPad mini heist that took place at JFK airport. The $1.9M robbery was the talk of the town as police started investigating who had stolen the just delivered iPad mini’s from Apple’s Chinese manufacturer. It was revealed on November 16 that a worker at the international airport could be the mastermind behind the robbery. Court papers pointed the finger at the accused robber named Renel Rene Richardson and stated that he planned the million dollar robbery.

Federal agents working the case were able to zero in on the alleged crook because of suspicious behavior before the heist. Richardson has been accused of asking workers about the Apple shipment and where forklifts were parked at the airport. Strange questions given what transpired later that day.

According to the papers filed in the court, the iPad minis were picked up using an airport forklift in the Cargo Air Services building. Richardson was the lookout for the two helpers who helped him get the job done. The accused were able to load up two palettes onto a truck before a worker in the area questioned them about their actions.

Richardson’s involvement was discovered by Port Authority after the accused co-workers at the Cargo Air Services building were questioned. Once the FBI arrested the suspect he went with Port Authority detectives to Long Island in their search for the stolen iPads and the truck. Apple’s stolen product has not yet been found however it seems that authorities are well on their way to getting to the bottom of this matter.
