Amazon has been trying new ways to attract both buyers and sellers to its marketplace. Before Christmas shopping kicks into full gear, the technology company has quietly launched Amazon Pages which provides sellers “custom destinations” which act as their brand’s own web page on Amazon. Users are now privy to custom URLs, dynamic designs, large photos and social media linking capabilities. Another feature being rolled out is Amazon Posts which allows users to utilize social media to market their products and services on Amazon and Facebook. Finally, the e-commerce giant ties it all together with another new service called Amazon Analytics which allows users to measure the results of their marketing activities.
For now the analytics are only for Amazon run applications but the company may expand the scope of the tool in the future. This means that Amazon would be inching closer into the realms of companies like Salesforce and Oracle. On the other hand the services like Amazon Pages should help make Amazon the go to destination for smaller brands and business who want run full service online stores.
Amazon Marketing Services created the three new features and has posted a PDF to guide people on how to go about using the new features.
The Amazon Pages are free to use and customize. Any brands, businesses or individuals can make the microsite and get their custom URL. The user can choose from three templates for the storefront and can add images, upload Large ‘Hero’ images, give Facebook and Twitter links and place “merchandizing widgets”. Amazon says that, “With a personalized Amazon Page, you extend your reach to Amazon.com customers and encourage immediate sales through a familiar and trusted purchasing environment. Link to content on Amazon.com, feature products, and lifestyle imagery about your brand.”
The company takes a bite out of social media with Amazon Posts which are updates to the brands site. The messages appear on Amazon and can be cross posted to other locations like Facebook. Amazon states that, “You can enhance your words with an image or a product. And you can plan ahead, scheduling the release of a series of posts on successive days.”
Amazon Analytics gives users the ability to see reach, view and purchase lift of a brand’s pages and posts. All these play on Amazon strong hold on big data and will help “demystify the impact of social marketing,” according to Amazon.
