According to a report in the Times Colonist, Amazon has finally offered its Prime service to Canadians who have now became the sixth market for the US based company to get this service. Previously, the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Japan were only places were Amazon had offered Prime.
Country Manager for Amazon.ca, Steve Oliver, spoke from the company’s Seattle Head Quarter and said that, “We have been working on (it) over the last year and we’re very excited to launch”.
To give the launch a kick start Amazon Prime has offered two day shipping of all eligible purchases free of charge, but only after paying a flat yearly fee. Furthermore, Amazon has also offered discount rates on one day shipping. As far as the annual fee in Canada is concerned it will be $79 and dollar rate will be the same as it is in US.
However, unlike the USA, Amazon Prime for Canada did not offer an important feature to Canadians. The omitted feature is known as Amazon Instant Video and in the US it allows users to stream a variety of TV shows and movies without paying a single penny. This Instant Video feature of Amazon is not available in other markets as well.
Moreover, despite the service being offered in all parts of Canada, the subscribers of Amazon Prime residing in the rural and remote areas of the country will get unlimited shipping only and that also without a two day guarantee. In addition to this, some areas of Canada will be able to add one more day of shipping, but after paying additional charges that starts from $3.99 for each item.
