Amazon’s eBook reader, Kindle Fire, has a huge lead over competing Android tablets in the United States after Localytics, a specialist in mobile trends and markets, revealed its latest report on the most popular tablets that use Google’s Android operating system.
According to data compiled by the firm, the Kindle Fire boasts a 33% share of the entire Android tablet market in the United States well ahead of rivals such as Barnes and Noble’s Nook, Samsung’s Galaxy tablets as well as Google’s own Nexus and other Android tablets in the market.
The second biggest market share is held by rival eBook reader, Nook that was launched by Barnes and Noble, with a 10% market share. Samsung’s Galaxy series has a 9% share while Google’s Nexus 7 has an 8% market share. Both the Galaxy tablet and Nook have been in the market for a long time while the Nexus has been available to the public for just a few months.
In the long term Google’s Nexus maybe the biggest challenger for Kindle Fire’s dominance of the Android tablet market according to the report released by Localytics. The report though does not incorporate market shares of Apple’s famous iPad as well as Canadian smartphone maker Research in Motion’s BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.
However, when considering just Android tablets Amazon holds a huge lead over its rivals and these companies will need to think long and hard on the way to break Kindle’s hold on the American tablet market.
The report was compiled using application installs on more than 500 million devices with the US market segmented by device.
