The system which today’s meteorologists use to forecast weather is quite reliable and fairly advance. However, just like other technologies there is room for improvement and atmospheric scientists are making efforts to develop a better system that could not only predict weather accurately, but also enable them to announce severe weather long before it hits cities and towns. As a result of these efforts it has been discovered that Android powered smartphones anonymously gathers data regarding air pressure around users and by using that information atmospheric scientists can better forecast severe weather conditions and also inform people about them hours before they hit populated areas.
Atmospheric scientists are now working along with Cumulonimbus, a Canadian app developer, to “take air pressure information that is already being collected from thousands of Android phones and feed it into sophisticated new climate models,” stated Wired. One of the latest Android powered smartphones that could be used for this purpose would be Samsung Galaxy S III, as it comes with atmospheric sensors.
However, only the time will tell which smartphone scientists will use in their effort, but at this point in time they along with Cumulonimbus are looking to involve Android owners in their cause according to Wired. If the team remains successful in doing so people may start receiving warnings of severe weathers like tornadoes, thunderstorms and various other serious climate conditions, hours ahead of time. These reports are expected to be a lot more accurate than the results of current methods.
