According to the latest research report from Kantar, Android’s market share in five key European countries (The Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy and France) has increased by 9.1 percent in the last year, as it has touched 70.4 percent mark. Besides this, the report also shows that roughly every one of the two smartphones sold in these five markets is a Samsung device.

“The latest smartphone sales data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, for the three months to May 2013, show that almost half of all smartphones sold in Europe are a Samsung. This uplift has helped Android to a 70.4% share across the five major European markets, up from 61.3% a year ago, and far higher than the 17.8% and 6.8% shares for iOS and Windows respectively …”

However, when it comes to the US smartphone market, Kantar’s sales figures were found not much different those issued by comScore a few days back, which shows a minor increase only in contrast to European markets. The figures show that the number of Android powered devices in the US market has slightly increased and touched 52 percent mark.

Kantar believes that now Samsung needs to shift its focus from escalation to retention in the European markets. The research firm noted that it is facing a tough time from the latest flagship smartphone from Sony, the Xperia Z, as so far 38 percent consumers have so far switched their Samsung handset.

“Samsung now finds itself in a position where, after two years of relentless growth, it must focus on keeping its existing base of customers loyal if it is to maintain its success. As it stands, Samsung has the second highest loyalty rate in Britain (59%), but this falls well short of Apple (79%). With the competition dramatically upping their game in terms of build quality and content innovation, Samsung will have to work hard to convince its 8.8 million customers to stick with the brand.”

Hopefully the new array of Galaxy and ATIV devices, which Samsung has recently unveiled at an event in London, will allow the South Korean OEM to maintain its user base in the European market. Given that Samsung has introduced some unique devices at that event, especially the ATIV Q tablet-slider, the only tablet in the world that offer two operating systems and the Galaxy S IV Zoom smartphone with powerful 16-megapixel rear.

Moreover, these new Samsung devices may also help the Korean company to boost its share in the US market.
