The results are in folks for the prestigious iPhone photography contest that is held every year celebrating the colors of life. This is not your ordinary every day contest. Thousands of pictures were sent and an enormous group of dazzling pictures were received. Out of the whole lot a few were chosen amongst different categories to be the winners. The annual iPhone Photography Awards have announced their winners for 2013. This competition is held yearly and it all started when Apple released their first iPhone. Their representatives have also described this as the “first and the longest running iPhone photography competition since 2007.”

Thousands of people take part in the competition from numerous countries. Photography isn’t merely a simple click of a button or a nice view. It’s a complex mixture of beautiful camera placement, composition, color mixing and sometimes pure dumb luck. People sometimes show their interests through photography or share their experiences in the past by capturing some relevant yet imaginative photographs. Sometimes they showcase the culture they have brought up in or the setup that inspires them. More often than not something beautiful is captured that truly inspires not in terms of the contents of the picture, but what the underlying message is. Perspective matters in photography for which Apple thrives for and is proud of. iPhone photographers from 38 countries submit their photos every year and winning photos are selected by jury members. All winners have their images published online and are part of the IPPAWARDS Interactive Annual series of books on iTunes.

Some strict restrictions were applied to all those who wanted to participate. A few of these restrictions were that the picture or image must not be taken by a camera other than the builtin camera in Apple iPhone or iPod Touch. Furthermore, Apple believes that photography should be genuine and hence declared that image processing through any desktop or Photoshop software will not be allowed and the images had to be genuine and not be tempered with. But the use of filters from apps like Instagram, Hipstamatic, CameraBag, etc. are allowed. The top prizes this year included three iPad minis for the top three photographers.

One of the winners this year includes a Canadian, Mark Simone from Vancouver, BC, as he won first place in the Trees category.
