Just like several other fast food chains the world renowned hamburger restaurant, Burger King, also maintains an account on popular micro-blogging website, Twitter, where the media team of the eatery post updates about different deals and information related to its branches. However, on February 18th the Twitter account of BK got hacked by an anonymous group, which posted a few new tweets on the Burger King’s page that not only stunned everyone, but one of them was found pretty disturbing. One of these tweets states that, “We just got sold to McDonalds! Look for a McDonalds in a hood near you,” whereas another noted that “We found one of our employees in the bathroom doing this…” and the picture below it shows a guy injecting himself with some kind of drug.
The new tweets from hackers also clearly showing that they had not only renamed Burger King’s account as McDonalds, but they had also removed its logo and replaced it with the traditional big M of the famous fast food restaurant. Keeping the timeline of Burger King’s Twitter account in mind, it appears that the Anonymous group hacked this page just few hours before the posts. Until now we have not seen any official confirmation from BK, as none of its other social media channels are showing any updates related to the hack. This can be easily judged from Burger King’s Facebook account which does not highlight any fresh post regarding the hack in spite of the fact that several fans had informed them about the incident through posts.
On the other hand, the Anonymous group that has hacked the Twitter account of BK did not forget to mention the reason of this attack, as they claimed this assault was a part of their #OpMadCow plan.
“Everyone follow us! @YourAnonNews #OpMadCow.”
It is not clear at this point in time whether Burger King has got in touch with authorities at Twitter in order to gain control of its page again but initially the long silence from the fast food chain restaurant is indicating that maybe the media team is not aware of the situation. However, the Burger King has now been suspended by Twitter, which confirms that the social media team of the chain is active and it may be working closely with the micro-blogging website to resolve the issue. Let’s hope that BK’s account will soon get back online, so its dies hard fans will once again gain access to its updates.
