iOS 6.1

One of the best things about Apple’s products is that whenever the California-based company launches the latest edition of its operating system, users of iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad can download it as soon it becomes available. Therefore, people who love to have an edge over others really adore Apple’s products, but sometimes they have to pay the price for being progressive. A recent example of this is a move by AOL in which the company has notified its corporate workforce that it has temporarily disabled the functionality to manage meetings through Apple’s mobile devices like iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone that are running on iOS 6.1 OS.

9to5Mac has got a hold of an internal email from AOL in which the CIO of the company, Michael Freker, has  given details about the announcement. Below are the exact words of Frecker in the email:

“AOL’s corporate Enterprise Messaging Operations team has been monitoring a rapidly increasing and unusually large volume of traffic across our enterprise mail environment originating from iOS devices running the new iOS 6.1 update. We have researched this problem and appears to be connected to a recently identified issue that seems to cause these iOS devices to continuously loop while synchronizing a recurring calendar meeting invitation. Similar problems have been reported by a number of sources to several media outlets across the Web in the past few days.

While our team continues to work productively and rapidly with Apple and Microsoft to resolve the issue, it has been necessary to temporarily disable the ability to accept or manage calendar meetings using mobile devices to ensure that we maintain the integrity of our corporate enterprise messaging platform. Since this change is limited to managing calendar invitations, by disabling them temporarily we allow our employees to continue to experience the excellent productivity these devices bring to our enterprise until this issue is resolved.”

As a result of this iOS 6.1 bug when users of Apple’s mobile devices try to manage meetings a “continuous loop” crops up. This “continuous loop” badly affects the battery life and overall performance of iOS devices. Therefore, AOL is engaging with both Apple and Microsoft to sort this issue.

At the start of this week, Apple has made its iOS 6.1.1 OS available to registered developers, which offers new updates to the Maps of Japan. To this point it is not known whether that update can resolve issues related to enterprises.
