iOS users who have downloaded the VLC Media Player app are surely enjoying the services offered by the free app. Although the VLC Media Player did not completely live up to the expectations set out by its fantastic desktop counterpart, it still takes care of a lot of issues that iOS users face, especially when it comes to playing video files from different formats. VLC for iOS is different than the normal VLC in terms of its interface as well. The app requires an iPhone 3GS or a 3rd generation iPod touch or an iPad running iOS 3.2 or later.

What’s good?

VLC Media Player is best known for playing an incredibly wide array of file formats without causing any trouble for the users, explaining why iOS users were excited to get their hands on this app. Apple has always remained quite conservative when it comes to providing media-playing apps, and its traditional app requires the files to be converted into MP4 format before playing. The VLC app however has seemingly resolved this issue as it is capable of playing different formats without having to convert them into a specific format.

What’s not?

Capable of playing different formats, the VLC app for iOS still lacks the ability to play files in every format and size. Handling DivX, AVI, MPG and other formats well, the VLC app is unable to properly play the files that are bigger in size. When it comes to playing high-resolution videos, the VLC app for iOS might disappoint you. The files just do not go well with the Apple devices thus far and even if you play them (despite getting a warning from the device) you will only be able to hear sounds, while the video will not stream properly.
