Bloomberg has reported that California based technology giant Apple is looking to include South Korean Electronics maker Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system in an existing IP court case. Lawyers for Apple made their arguments in a federal court in San Jose, California on November 6. The move by the maker of the popular iPhone seems to be in response to Samsung wanting to add the recently released iPhone 5 to the same case.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is 10 inch tablet device that is being sold under Samsung’s own name even though the company will be providing the hardware for a Google branded device called the Nexus 10. Google’s Android OS got dragged into the case because it latest version, Jelly Bean, runs the Samsung tablet.
The current move by both firms seems to indicate that they are accelerating their court battle and will not be backing down any time soon. Apple lawyers had previously gotten a preliminary order that is favorable to their position and will stop the retailing of Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the United States. The legal team tried to add Samsung’s Galaxy S III to the case in August. Interestingly, Judge Lucy Koh had already canceled an injunction against the earlier version of the tablet called Galaxy Tab 10.1 in a separate case in the same court.
Both companies are looking to get a result for devices that are being released today so that they become a part of the case moving forward. With the trial date set for next year the companies will want to add products that are released during that interval.
