Yesterday we at TQ reported rumours were swirling that Apple is looking to launch a 128GB variant of its 4th generation iPad. Now it has been officially announced by the Cupertino-based company that it will make the 128GB version of iPad available for sale from Tuesday, February 5. In this announcement Apple also made it known that the 128GB edition of the current iPad will come in two colours and it will be made available in two versions, a Wi-Fi + Cellular version and a Wi-Fi only version. This coincided precises with how we reported the rumors earlier. In addition to this, the latest version of Apple’s famous tablet also boosts a retina display and an HD camera.
Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for Apple, Philip Schiller, said on the occasion that, “With more than 120 million iPads sold, it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and every day they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs. With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.”
Apple’s press release also sheds light on the massive storage capacity of the new iPad by saying that with the device they wish target enterprise users mainly.
“iPad continues to have a significant impact on business with virtually all of the Fortune 500 and over 85 percent of the Global 500 currently deploying or testing iPad. Companies regularly utilizing large amounts of data such as 3D CAD files, X-rays, film edits, music tracks, project blueprints, training videos and service manuals all benefit from having a greater choice of storage options for iPad.”
This new model of 4th gen iPad will cost $100 more than the previous 64GB version, as the Wi-Fi edition will be offered at $799, whereas the cellular plus Wi-Fi model will be obtainable for $929. However, it remains to be seen how the end users will react to this huge price gap between 128GB version and 64GB version of iPad.
