Last week The New York Times reported that Apple signed a deal with the Warner Music Group for its purported iRadio service that will give the tech giant music and publishing rights. In addition to this, the NYK also divulged that Apple was also holding talks with Sony Music Entertainment and their publishing department Sony/ATV. Now according to the latest report of AllThingsD, Apple has secured another deal by signing a music agreement with Sony Music to add one more big music publisher to its list. Here is an extract from the original report: “Sony Music has signed on to Apple’s forthcoming iRadio service, according to a person familiar with negotiations between the two companies. The deal means Apple now has agreements with all three major music labels.”
Now Apple has signed deals with three top music labels, which are ready to release the much-rumoured radio service from the Cupertino-based company. However, this does not mean at all that Apple is all set to launch its iRadio service in the forthcoming WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference). In fact, Apple will use the WWDC platform to let the developers know about the upcoming radio service.
Bloomberg has also published a report which is in line with AllThingsD’s article. Quoting sources familiar with the Apple-Sony deal, the media outlet has reported that “Sony signed its agreement late yesterday, and Apple plans to announce the service, unofficially dubbed iRadio, at a conference on June 10, said the people, who requested anonymity because the talks are private. Vivendi SA’s Universal Music and Len Blavatnik’s Warner Music Group have already signed agreements with Apple, people with knowledge of the situation said this month.”
When it comes to such rumors, Bloomberg maintains a decent reputation, so it means that there is high possibility that Apple has most probably struck a deal with Sony Music and the company is now ready make the iRadio service official at WWDC. Rumours suggest that Apple’s iRadio service will be quite alike Pandora, but it is expected that the new service may surprise the users with its enhanced features.
Therefore, one cannot rule out the possibility that Apple’s iRadio will give users more control over songs as compared to other Web-based radio services. Moreover, speculations also indicate that the new service of Apple could be free, as the company is expected to earn money by giving audio ads on its Web radio.
