According to a recent report Apple’s world renowned iPhone may be struggling to lure consumers. Two sources have told the Wall Street Journal that the Cupertino-based company has slashed its display orders for iPhone 5 for the first quarter of 2013 in half. Moreover, Apple has also cut the orders of other components for their smartphone, which further gives credence to the report that iPhone 5 is facing low demand from consumers.
The Wall Street Journal sources may be on to something as the latest smartphone from Apple has failed to grab headlines like previous editions. iPhone 5’s initial sales broke the 4 million units sales record of iPhone 4S following its launch but after that no news has come out of Apple about the performance of the device.
Some observers are not certain that Apple slashed the orders for displays and other components due to low demand of the iPhone 5 because the move could also mean that Apple may have previously over-estimated how many components were required to keep their stockpile in check.
For Android devotees this is some great news. As the biggest rival of Apple’s iOS software, Google’s Android and with it Samsung hold 31.3 percent smartphone market share internationally. Any news that shows a chink in Apple’s armor is good news. In contrast to the South Korean electronics manufacturer Apple holds just 14.6 percent of the global smartphone market share, according to research from IDC.
