The San Francisco Chronicle reported earlier that tech giant Apple is looking to open a new retail store at Union Square in San Francisco and the company has submitted plans with the relevant authority regarding the new site. Apple already has a retail store close to Union Square that is located just a few blocks away at Stockton and Ellis but the new site will replace the old spot. San Francisco Chronicle’s report also mentioned that the new retail location from Apple is said to have 45 percent more space as compared to the existing San Fran retail store. Also the new store will occupy the building that previously belongs to Levi’s. Moreover, by establishing this new location, Apple expects to create 50 new job openings along with the existing 350 employees, which are currently working at the Stockton street store of the company:

“Apple claims the move to the new location will mean an increase of about 50 jobs over the 350 the current location has employed. “We’re thrilled to be working with the City of San Francisco,” read a statement from the Cupertino tech giant.

San Francisco Mayor, Ed Lee, said his office is working with Apple to find more “green measures” and “energy efficiencies” for the new location. Lee also said he hoped the new location would become the “Bay Area hub” for Apple shopping and customer service inquiries.

After San Francisco Chronicle’s report went public, AllThingsD received an official confirmation from Apple along with some improved images of the new retail site at Union Square, which has now confirmed that the California-based company is working on a new location in San Francisco city. Below is the official statement from Apple that AllThingsD has received:

“We’re thrilled to be working with the city of San Francisco on a new Apple retail store at Union Square…. Our store on Stockton Street has welcomed over 13 million customers since it opened nine years ago, and we look forward to serving them in an amazing new location when this project is complete.”

Apple did not give any idea about when it is going to move into the new Union Square store but the image of Apple’s new retail location given above suggests that perhaps this time the Cupertino-based company has made slight changes to the design of its new site, as the store in the picture shows two floors.
