During the last Apple share holders meeting ,CEO Tim Cook said that “we’re looking at new categories. We don’t talk about them, but we’re looking at them.” At that time the statement suggested that perhaps the CEO of the California-based technology giant was pointing towards the alleged iWatch. However, considering the latest reports it seems that Cook might be suggesting more products than just the smart watch, as Pocketgamer has revealed on Friday, March 29th that developers of mobile games have informed the site that Apple has conducted secret meetings during 2013 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in which the company has discussed a game controller.

“Long rumoured – and hoped for – GDC 2013 has finally provided confirmation that Apple will release its own dedicated game controller. Of course, there’s no official word yet, but Apple has been active during the conference talking to developers about its plans and ensuring plenty of games will support the joypad at launch.It’s been operating a meeting room at the show, albeit booked under a pseudonym company name to avoid media attention.However, speaking anonymously, multiple developer sources have confirmed the news to PocketGamer.biz”
The report does not look very authentic, as no other details about the secret discussion on game controller were unveiled in this story. Moreover, due to shortage of details it is hard to predict at this stage what Apple is actually eyeing in the gaming market. However, there is a possibility that Apple might be looking to introduce a game controller for its next iPhone just the way Samsung has launched a gamepad for its latest Galaxy S IV smartphone. This gamepad from Samsung enable the users to have a handheld gaming console like experience, as it easily houses the S IV and seamlessly connects with it via Bluetooth so owners can play games.
Nevertheless, it is not more than speculation because so far PocketGamer’s report has not received any confirmation. Plus in the past, PocketGamer has issued a report in which the site claimed that Apple would declare a $19.99 store for top games, but it never proved true. So it further raises doubts on the authenticity of PocketGamer’s recent report. In spite of the fact that until today, Apple has submitted a number of patents related to game controllers and a report has claimed during last year that Apple was working on a project related to a game controller.
Here is a piece of that report: “I know of an internal Apple project to bring a physical controller to market, but whether or not it will ever see the light of day remains to be seen. As smartphones and tablets come close to equalling the performance of current game consoles, I feel like the controller problem must be addressed.”
