Analysts were anticipating that Apple’s iPad Mini and 4th generation iPad would be greeted quite warmly by tablet and Apple fans, but very few if any could have predicted the number of units that actually moved this past weekend. According to the latest announcement from Apple, the company sold 3 million iPads in just three days, which by my math equates to one million units of their latest iOS tablets each day of this past weekend.

This is a remarkable achievement by Apple considering the fact that the iPads managed to achieve this huge figure despite luring fewer customers in most parts of the world, as compared to the U.S. and Canada, where retailers and Apple stores sold out of iPad Minis within a few hours. Ottawa’s Rideau Centre location for example was sold out of Minis by 9:30 am.

Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook said, “Customers around the world love the new iPad mini and fourth generation iPad. We set a new launch weekend record and practically sold out of iPad minis. We’re working hard to build more quickly to meet the incredible demand.”

With this remarkable figure, the iPad Mini and 4th generation iPad have set a new sales record for Apple. These latest devices managed to break the previous sales record of their predecessor device, the 3rd generation iPad that was launched in March and managed 1.5 million units sold within the first week of its release.

Apple has not given out first week sales figure of its new iPad Mini thus far, opting to aggregate the sales amounts with that of the impressive 4th generation iPad. Given these gaudy numbers, there is little denying that Apple’s innovative and pioneering device sits atop the tablet totem pole.
