Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted that his company has a deep interest in the television space and now rumours are swirling that the late Steve Job’s company is looking to develop a watch like product as well. For many this report will be less than a revelation because they would ask themselves why a company like Apple would enter into watch manufacturing, as a $100 watch is not going to raise much in proceeds for this financial juggernaut.
The answer to their question is that akin to the way Apple is trying to test its luck by introducing a next gen television, similarly taking a chance to develop a smart watch or an iWatch would not hurt in an increasingly connected world. Another aspect behind this development could be the testing of technology that would replace smartphones in the future because in any case this is how an era of technology often comes to an end.
Smartphone technology proved a slayer for flip phones and similarly now tablets like iPads and Galaxy Tabs are diminishing PCs. Therefore, following this same old tradition one day a new technology is going to replace smartphones. Perhaps this new technology could come in the form of a smart watch or iWatch.
Talking about this new technology Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster said that, “We believe that longer term (over the next 10+ years), wearable computers could eventually replace the iPhone and smartphones in general.” He continues, “We believe technology could progress to a point where consumers have a tablet plus wearable computers, like watches or glasses that enable simple things like voice calls, texting, quick searches, navigation, etc. through voice control.”
At this point in time, it will be too early to predict whether this report would come true or not, but one thing is for certain that definitely we will see a better technology in the future.
