Shapeways recently wrapped up its 3D Print Contest for iPhone 5 accessories by announcing winners in late October. The big winner was ArtizanWork who got 3D printing worth $500 thanks to their winning entry of a “knitted” Sweater case for the iPhone. The winning entry has four color options and a unique design thanks to its hybrid chain mail and knitted sweater look. The design also gives the phone cover a lot of sturdiness because the outer edges are rigid while the inner knitted area is flexible.

Shapeways is considered the leading marketplace for online 3D printing and the website claims that, “We harness 3D Printing to help everyone make and share designs with the world, making product design more accessible, personal, and inspiring.” The contest was to help drum up interest in the company’s services and also show creative ways that 3D printing can be used to meet everyday needs of users.

ArtizanWork also has a catchy slogan for their iphone cover and the designers claim their cases are “handwoven by robots.” They also state that, “The cross stitching can move separately from each other creating an awesome tactile feel while acting like mini shock absorbers that protects your phone.” ArtizanWork has developed a cool video to go along with the design which gives a lot more details of the design and how it is made.

The retail price for the cover is $75 and anyone can purchase a white version from Shapeways or get other colors directly through ArtizanWork.
