New start-ups located in Canada’s province of British Columbia are being offered a golden opportunity to take advantage of the experience and knowledge of fellow entrepreneurs through the BCIC Acceleration Network. The program will run throughout the Canadian province and represents a collaboration between a large group of players that will be working together to create a growth accelerator for technology firms.

The BCIC Acceleration Network is being sponsored by the British Columbia Innovation Council and the regions of Okanagan and Victoria have the program in full swing thanks to Accelerate Okanaga and Accelerate Tectoria. Future plans include the expansion of the program to Lower Mainland, West Kootenays, Central Interior and Central/Northern Island. The initiative expects to have all these areas covered by the end of 2013.

The program is a one of a kind network that should give start-ups in the technology sector a unique experience that they would not have gotten through conventional entrepreneurship programs. The major difference is that the BCIC Acceleration Network uses multiple channels to procure advice and mentorship for the participants. This gives them a large variety of options delivered through one network. The network becomes a powerful combination of the power of diversity delivered through the same channel. The network also utilizes a growth model that has been shown to work for other firms and the scenario is applied to all firms throughout the province to create consistent results for technology companies seeking growth and success.

BCIC Acceleration Network aims to create jobs for the Canadian province through the promotion of the technology sector. The initiative has had some success since it was started. in the first year of operations, 140 jobs were generated for residents of British Columbia. These jobs came from the 47 start-ups that started working with the BCIC Acceleration Network program and were able to gain $4 million in funding.
