BDC Venture Capital Signs on With Startup Weekend Canada to Become its First Ever Nationwide Partner

According to the latest update, BDC Venture Capital declared that they are now the first ever nationwide partner of well-known Seattle based Startup Weekend Canada that organises 54-hours intense events in which product managers, designers, marketers, developers and startup enthusiasts gather at one place to share ideas, launch startups, build products and form teams.

 

The two firms signed the agreement on Thursday, just when the fifth Weekend Startup (November 9 to 11) was about to tip off. On this occasion Vice President of Strategic Investments and Initiatives at BDC Venture Capital, Senia Rapisarda said that, “The time has never been better for a Startup Weekend. I want to see BDC Venture Capital’s support utilized to its fullest.”

 

“The partnership with Startup Weekend is strongly aligned with our efforts to ensure a healthy and vibrant early stage ecosystem in Canada.”

 

This agreement with BDC Capital Venture will deeply help Startup Weekend Canada to organise more events than ever before, as the expected number of Startup Weekend events in the country can go up to 22 during next year.

 

So now, more product managers, designers, marketers, developers and startup enthusiasts will get the chance to participate in this wonderful series of event. Startup Weekend has been doing this wonderful work since its inception back in 2007 and so far they have organized 650 events around the world and 18 in Canada during past two years.

 

Over that period of time, several companies have emerged on the scene by using Startup Weekend platform and some of these successful ventures are Foodspotting, Zaarly, Memolane and Launchrock. This list of successful companies also includes numerous Canadian startups as well, as Toronto has seen three early businesses Wash.ly, Ven.io and Venngage ready to spread their wings because of Startup Weekend.

 

Overall, Startup Weekend has made a strong impact because of its work for the software and web sector. It is due to this very reason, Startup Weekend was able to get the backing of the companies like Google, Microsoft and others for its Seattle office. Organising startup events is not the only function of this non profit organisation, as it provides assistance and framework to the local volunteer organisers around the globe as well.
