Research In Motion has been taking a beating in the smartphone market that it once used to dominate. The Canadian manufacturer of the BlackBerry devices has fallen severely behind competitors like Apple, Samsung and Operating System producers like Google. RIM had a failed attempt to enter the tablet market and decided to refocus on its primary devices and announced the impending release the much talked about BlackBerry 10 Operating System. However, the BB10 launch has seen many delays and the devices and OS are expected to be launched in the first part of 2013.

Even though there have been some leaks about what type of devices that should be expected, nothing very juicy has made its way out into the wild. The latest buzz making the rounds has to do with images of the L-Series handset.

Engadget has published the images and reports that other than there is no other information about the device as yet. The images do show that the battery will be removable with the entire back panel being the cover for the battery.

RIM will miss the holiday shopping season with the delay in launching their OS and related devices. This is something that critics have pointed as being a mistake for the company when other competitors are launching phones before Christmas. For example, the iPhone 5 has made a fantastic launch this past week and sales are expected to stay strong for the next couple of weeks. Analysts also predict that RIM may have to shut down shop if their BB10 platform and phones do not make an impact on the marketplace. This means a lot is riding on the photographed device.
