BlackBerry stands strong on its stance that its recently launched Z10 smartphone has been receiving good response from different markets, rubbishing the reports that the phone had been sold out completely in some places only because the supply was limited.

In an interview with a German newspaper, FAZ, BlackBerry chief Thorsten Heins maintained that the company has increased its production capacity and said that short of supply had not been the reason for the smartphone’s shortage in some markets.

Earlier, some reports claimed that the new Z10 had been a great hit as all of the devices were sold. However, later some researches claimed that the phone was not available in the markets, because the sellers were out of stock and the company had reportedly provided them with a limited supply. BlackBerry had earlier denied such an impression and Heins has once again asserted that there is nothing wrong with the supply. However, he did mention that the company has increased its production capacity.

The BlackBerry Z10 smartphone was initially available in the U.K. and Canada, and after some early reports of getting a good response the phone reportedly received an underwhelming reaction. When asked about this matter, Heins said:

“You can be sure that we are the sales figures every day watch. We exceed our expectations, and the requirements were ambitious. Before we give out specific numbers, we want to do business but watch for a while.” He continued: “The fact is that we have been surprised by the positive response. We have now increased our production capacity.”

Heins also made a bold claim saying that the new BlackBerry smartphone will be bought by many customers who use iPhones and Android-using smartphones. This, however, will be determined when we get the stats to support this view.

Meanwhile, the BlackBerry chief also spoke about one of the highlighting features of the new smartphone – its apps. BlackBerry has historically not relied on apps for its success, but this time the company had to offer apps in order to compete in the market. At the time of its launch, BlackBerry already had around more than 70,000 apps. Heins has said that there will be even more apps and the number would reach around 100,000 soon. This is still less than what Apple and Android have to offer, but it is a step in the right direction from BlackBerry.
