While BlackBerry is a bit reluctant to enter the Japan market, it continues to explore opportunities in the Middle East. After selecting Dubai as one of the six destinations to hold the global launch for the new BlackBerry 10 smartphone, the company has now made available BlackBerry World in Oman.

BlackBerry App World storefront, to be known as BlackBerry World from February 14, will be available for customers on the Omantel and Navras networks, according to ameinfo. The App World will allow the BB customers in Oman to access the company’s wide range of apps. The customers who have got BB 7 or earlier models will have access to over 100,000 apps. More than 2,000 of these apps will be in Arabic.

It is significant to note here that dealing in apps was not BlackBerry’s cup of team until it faced serious competition in the smartphone market from Apple, Samsung and other companies that completely overshadowed the Canadian-based smartphone maker. After clearing a lot of hurdles BlackBerry has now jumped in the market again by introducing its new Z10 smartphone that had around 700,000 apps at the time of its launch.

Now making the apps available to other customers in different parts of the world shows that the company has learned the importance apps play in the smartphone market. The availability of apps also creates a chance for developers across the globe to provide services for BlackBerry. Many developers had shifted to working for other companies owing to BlackBerry’s lack of interest in apps, but they returned when the company announced to have a large number of apps for the new smartphone.

The availability of BlackBerry store in Oman will also present an opportunity for the local and regional developers to shine on the bigger platform. Chris Corsi, Country Director, Oman, Pakistan, UAE at BlackBerry, said:

“We are excited to bring BlackBerry World to Oman and provide our customers with access to innovative and exciting content. Our developer partners in the Middle East are creating new apps every month for BlackBerry smartphones, and we are committed to working with local developers to create a strong pipeline of locally relevant apps for our customers here.”

BlackBerry World is accessible for all the customers using BB OS 4.2 or higher.
