After tackling the negative claims of analysts about the sales of its latest all-touch device, the BlackBerry Z10, the Waterloo-based smartphone maker is now looking to bring some more popular apps to its platform. According to the latest update a new WhatsApp app is about to hit the BlackBerry 10 platform in the coming days. The popular instant messaging app that is likely to make its debut on the platform next week. The head of PR for BlackBerry Developers, Alex Kinsella, revealed the news through his Twitter account. Here is how Kinsella has actually made the forecast about the upcoming app:
“Prediction for next week – You’ll be downloading WhatsApp on your #BlackBerryZ10.”
Although, Kinsella did not mention the exact launch date of WhatsApp, the interesting thing is that the popular app developer agreed to develop a native app for BlackBerry’s BB10 platform. The announcement came from the BlackBerry official at a time when all sorts of negative reports are coming out about the new hardware and software from the company. Recently Netflix, an on-demand streaming media company, stated that it had no interest in developing an app for the new platform and the news was a major blow to BlackBerry.
Prior, to that reports suggested that Instagram was also not too keen about launching its app on the platform from the Canadian company. As a result several tech analysts declared the news a big blow for BlackBerry because according to them not only did this shows that developers are not ready to take the risk to build an app for BB10, but it will also discouraging others to develop an app for the BB10 platform.
Fortunately, with report of WhatsApp arrival BlackBerry has been able to put all negative assertions about its platform to rest. Moreover, during last week two leading social networking websites Twitter and LinkedIn have updated their apps from BB10. The Twitter and LinkedIn apps first came in as default applications and hardly a month after the launch of BlackBerry Z10, the social networking websites have made their updates available.
Before that at the launch of BlackBerry’s latest smartphone and OS the company added more than 70,000 apps to BlackBerry World and fulfilled its promise to customers. However, still several popular apps are not available on BB10 platform but the way BlackBerry is making efforts it appears that soon the company will managed to bring them on board just like WhatsApp.
