Ottawa based BLiNQ Networks Inc develops next-generation intelligent wireless backhaul solutions. Last week, the company recently announced that on September 19 they had secured $10 million in equity funding. BLiNQ hopes to put the money to good use by using it to expand its business footprint globally. A large bulk of the cash will also be plowed into the high capacity mobile transport solutions that BLiNQ is seeking to patent. The latest round of funding was provided by  BDC Venture Capital, New Venture Partners and Summerhill Venture Partners.

The explosion of smartphones and the heavy internet data usage on these devices has put a lot of demand on mobile networks. Videos, images and social networks on smart phones has force wireless providers to create small cell base stations in areas where they need to make the network robust enough to meet demand. The current mobile backhaul solutions have proven to be too expensive to effectively solve bandwidth issues.

BLiNQ Networks has solved this issue by developing a non line of site (NLOS) backhaul technology for small cell transport. The BLiNQ product can be sent out wherever it is needed quickly requiring only one truck and a technician. The ease of deployment is coupled with the fact that the solution re-configures itself to stay optimized and provide the highest efficiency with hands-off convenience.

Mickey Miller, CEO for BLiNQ, gives further details by stating, “We have successfully completed trials in North America and Europe demonstrating the availability, reliability and scalability of NLOS backhaul. The company has been named to the annual FierceWireless ‘Fierce 15’ list, designating it as one of the top privately-held wireless companies of the year. We were also nominated by the Telecom Council of Silicon Valley for the Zephyr Award for Best Mobile Opportunity. We were selected from a pool of over 200 promising start-ups which more than 25 global carriers reviewed this past year.”
