Aegis Mobility, a Canadian startup that develops software to keep drivers safe has acquired Zoomsafer. Aegis Mobility has not made public how much they paid for the company but it was announced that they recently closed a $5 million round of financing with the release of the final tranche. Zoomsafer is a great buy for the Vancouver-based mobile software developers because they have acquired proprietary products like FleetSafer Mobile and FleetSafer Vision to add to their portfolio.

Aegis  Mobility CEO, Paul Zimmerman, commented on the acquisition and said, “Accidents due to employee use of mobile devices while driving is a huge and growing problem costing employers an estimated $50 billion per year. ZoomSafer’s products are uniquely complementary to ours and, combined, we’re the only company in the world capable of supporting a wide range of customer requirements covering the broadest range of vehicle-types and mobile device types.”

ZoomSafer cofounder, Matt Howard, further explained how his company kept distracted mobile users safe by saying that, “When solving the distracted driving problem for enterprise fleets it’s critical to give them flexibility so they can choose the solution that best fits with their unique requirements. Whether integrating into existing telematics systems, utilizing in-vehicle OBD technologies, or implementing software-only GPS-based solutions, the combination of Aegis and ZoomSafer gives customers maximum choice.”

Canadian Aegis Mobility got its start in 2006 and got its latest cash injection from angel investor groups from West Michigan and Chicago. The latest funds will go on top of the already acquired $12 million in cash. The startup will use the new found funds to “capitalize on the rapidly growing market for distracted driving solutions.” We at TQ appreciate Aegis’ efforts to keep drivers safe in an increasingly connected world.
