Canada will soon be getting its very first rotating house in North Rustico. The couple commissioning the house to be built east of Cavendish, P.E.I., is going to become the only owners of a house that rotates within Canada. It may sound silly to have a rotating house but when the benefits of rotating windows to face the sun at all times to keep the house warm during winter and an ocean view from any window are possible then the idea starts to make a whole lot more sense.

Steve and Stephanie Arnold will be the proud owners of the home and expect the $1.3 million house to be completed by the summer of 2013. The Arnolds will establish a bed and breakfast in the new house and live on the top floor. The venue will be a summer get away for them and the 5,000 square foot area should be more than enough for guests that will enjoy amazing ocean views.

In order to change their dreams into reality, the Arnolds got in touch with Luke Everingham because of his reputation as the designer of the famous rotating house in New South Wales, Australia.  Everingham worked hard to create a house that not only took into consideration the temperature and climate of the area but also the needs of the residents. All wiring and plumbing was run through the center of the house and was made flexible so that it did not get damaged during rotation.

All the moving parts that were used were heavy duty because snow can be very heavy during the winter months and the designer did not want the house to be stuck in the winter time. In the plans the house utilizes two motors that power 24 wheels to rotate the house once every 30 minutes. The speed of the movement is set to 80 meters per hour and the entire thing can be controlled through the owner’s iPhone.
