On October 5, 2012 the Toronto-based accelerator, Extreme Startups announced that it had chosen the second batch of companies, five in all, that will be taking part in their start-up accelerator program. In the next couple of months the start-ups will participate in the incubator program and its many prepratory activities. All this will conclude with a demonstration by the participants on November 28.

The five start ups that are included in the latest group are listed below:

Kera: The startup has an interesting concept and their company is working on creating a system that will allow developers of mobile apps the ability to create in-app tutorials. The guides will be able to interact with text inputs, forms and other page elements.

Picatic: Is taking Crowd funding to new area and is using the hot concept to fund musical concerts and events. Even though the company is an online ticketing start-up, it is pushing to develop a program where organizers can make sure they make money from an event by crowdsourcing.

MyShoebox: The cloud allows users to back up as much data as they want without purchasing and maintaining hardware. This little start-up uses the storage ability of the cloud and lets its users save as many images as they want.

Shifthub: This company uses the Software As A Service (Saas) model to deliver a scheduling platform to their users. The nifty service allows small and medium size businesses to create and share staff schedules quickly and easily.

Venio: This start-up focuses on healthy eating by providing users a platform that will give them a nutritional guide, grocery list and recipe book all on their smartphone.

Extreme Startups’ first cohort went through the program during the summer months of 2012. The program had very decent results with SimplyUs, Verelo and Shoplocket separating themselves. The success of the first batch can be judged from the fact that out of five participants, two companies were able to seize roughly $1 million or more from U.S. and Canada based Venture Capital firms.

That successful graduation of the first batch not only enabled Extreme Startups to choose their second cohort, but this time they had also kept some room for a few potential young companies that will take part in this accelerator program along with the second batch. This Pre-accelerator group will benefit from free co-working place and advice to the following firms:

Bebedo: This platform allows users to discover what they want when they need it. This search could be about any activity, event or place to eat .

Brika: Authentic artisans’ goods that are rare to find and have uncovered stories attached with them are put on sale through this platform for a limited time.

MommiesFirst: This startup aims to make the life of expecting mothers and new moms easier by offering care packages that save time, money and energy.

Pictoreo: Has developed an app that run on iOS or Android phones to help users create animated gifs.

Relay: This innovative app is placed on smartphones and lets users collaborate using images.
