With the incredible number of apps that exist in Apple’s App Store, a little bit of help discovering useful, interesting and playful ones are always appreciated. With that in mind, the team behind ooomf has set out to create an interactive app discovery experience that links developers with their end users.
The Montreal based startup is a graduate of FounderFuel’s Spring 2012 Accelerator program, using the opportunity as a platform for their promising future. Co-founder Mikael Cho and his team saw the opportunity to create an application that allowed users to discover and participate in the creation of apps whether they are merely in the idea stage or already App Store certified.
The company recently announced that they had secured a $500K funding round led by Montreal based Real Ventures along with BDC Venture Capital and various angel investors. As part of the announcement, the company also declared the launch of their public beta.
The company offers a myriad of ways for developers to engage with users including storytelling, the ability to vote on icon design as well as input on branding and the app’s overall message. Cho feels that the engagement level is key to users identifying with various apps thereby making them more likely to use and share the app with others.
“We’ve already seen it with websites like Kickstarter. What really captivates end users is that they too can be a part of a project’s story,” said Cho, “ooomf creates a desire for end users to identify and support their favorite app makers. Because there are over 600,000 apps it can be so frustrating unless you know exactly what you’re looking for.”
