Social dining and the start-ups that spawn it represent a fantastic way to socialize and network over one of the world’s great equalizers – delicious food. Venice, California based Grubwithus, who manage a social dining network in the Bay Area, have decided to expand their operations into Canadian soil via the acquisition of Vancouver based The Social Feed.

Financial terms and parameters of the deal have yet to be disclosed, however it has been confirmed that the deal was fully paid for in cash. According to Betakit, the three co-founders of the The Social Feed, who cite themselves as the site for the young and social has agreed to remain with the company as Canadian advisors.

Launched in January of 2011, Social has hosted various dinners for large groups ranging in size from 14 to 60 in both Vancouver as well as Toronto. The concept and its success are in line with what Grubwithus aims to accomplish, which is the ability for its users to select and suggest meals while also benefiting from meeting with people who share the same passion for food.

Grubwithus had raised $5 million in May of this year, and this marks the company’s first major move since said funding round. According to CEO Eddy Lu, the company keeps tabs on all of their competitors, of which there are several, and are constantly determining how to reach and excel in new markets.

The company’s next plan, with the help of The Social Feed is international expansion into the UK as well as English speaking parts of Asia.
