The personal assistant app with voice recognition, Maluuba, stated that it would now be offering both Sports and TV Schedule search options in its latest update. Maluuba will be introducing the changes to both its Android and Windows Phone 8 user-base. The app got its start at TechCrunch Disrupt 2012 where the world was introduced to the company’s proprietary, patent-pending language engine for Android that let users speak naturally to make requests. The speed and accuracy of the system has been noted by many consumers while the latest Windows Phone 8 app became the top free app on the first weekend of its release. The Maluuba Sports and TV Search are both free for users and can be downloaded from the Windows Phone Store and Google Play Store.
TechVibes explains that, “Sports for Maluuba keeps users up to date with live game scores, upcoming schedules, and the latest standings and playoff brackets for their favorite teams from the NBA, NHL, and MLB.” They also add that, “TV Schedules for Maluuba, the self-proclaimed first of its kind for a voiced-powered personal assistant app, allows users to find what shows are playing by show name, TV channel name, or even by genre on their local cable provider. And they likely have yours, with support for over 1,000 providers across North America.”
Mohamed Musbah, product manager at Maluuba, also spoke about the new features and said that, “We spoke to sports fans and studied what they wanted most. Finding live scores, game schedules, standings and playoff brackets require many taps, clicks, and searches in traditional sports apps. With Sports for Maluuba we’ve simplified the process and made it seamless. It’s as simple as asking ‘When is the next BlackHawks game?’ or ‘How many wins do the New York Yankees have.’ You can even ask ‘Who’s winning the Red Wings series?’ Maluuba brings you right to the answer.”
Even though Malluba came out of stealth mode a year later, it was founded in 2011 and is based in Waterloo, Canada. The service competes against bigger players like Apple’s Siri and Google Now. According to the startup, “The Maluuba language engine is a product of two years of advanced research in artificial intelligence, machine learning and linguistics.” The startup currently has 20 employees and has received Series A funding from Samsung Ventures worth $2 Million. The Canadian firm is looking for another round of investment to further develop its product and customer base.
