Canadian startup Mejuri shined at the Elevator World Tour that was organised recently at the CN Tower by winning its top prize. The tour was the part of International Startup Festival that will be held in Montreal in July.

In the recent event, more than 100 startups from different parts of the world were present and all had to impress the judges in a unique way. All of them had to take an elevator ride and were given one minute to pitch their ideas to the investors who were riding along with them in the elevator.

The pitch of every participant was recorded and later issued to the public so they could vote for them. Mejuri co-founder Noura Sakkijha did feel a bit nervy in front of the investors, but she enthralled nearly every single person who watched and listened to her pitch. According to TechVibes, Noura said after winning:

“It was definitely a lot of pressure when you walk in and you see the investors, you see the cameras in the small space (and I’m afraid of heights). But everything was as great as I expected so I’m very thankful.”

Mejuri is an online platform that connects jewellery makers with jewellery lovers. The establishment of such a platform was inspired by the fact that with the increase in presence of designers in different parts of the world, there were not much platforms for them to exhibit their talent. Hence the distance between the designers and the jewellery lovers had been increasing. Mejuri allows the designers to present their work online and market it in any way they can. It also allows jewellery lovers to comment and vote for different designs present on the website.
