Canada’s popular daily deal website, WagJag, released a statement last month which made public the firm’s purchase of Deal of the Day. The Toronto based WagJag increased its subscriber based significantly when it bought its latest acquisition from previous owner Yellow Media. The press release did not mention any information about how much the deal was worth and there has been no statement from either party about the matter.

Yellow Media, which is well known for its Yellow Pages, is keeping the Deal of the Day site active until it subscribers are completely absorbed by WagJag. Subscribers should be able to login to their accounts and access their coupons and vouchers without any problems. They can also keep purchasing coupons and the vendors are expected to honor them as usual under the terms and conditions of the site.

It should take WagJag several weeks to completely integrate the Deal of the Day subscribers into its own data base. The acquisition seems to be a good fit for the Canadian company as it is able to concentrate on the sectors that it has gained some prominence in over the years. According to president of WagJag, Jeremy Zuker, “WagJag remains committed to delivering the most exciting offers across Canada in our local, travel, grocery and golf verticals. We warmly welcome the Deal of the Day members.”

Located in Ontario, WagJag has led the local daily deal sector since its inception at the end of 2010. According to the company, they have sold approximately 2.6 million coupons and have 2.2 million subscribers to their site. The deals that have shown up on the site in the past two years have produced 200 million dollars in discounts for the sites users.
