Acquisitions of technology companies remained high during 2012 with over 2,200 private corporations obtained across the globe. Canada was ranked the third best country in the world when it came to acquisitions after the US and UK, as per the latest report from CB Insights. Considering the fact that Canada’s population is just 10 percent of America, gaining third place is quite remarkable. However, with this size of population it will be pretty tough for Canada to surpass America in acquisition race, but CB Insights’ report says that the country “has a lot of momentum as of late on both the financing and exit front.”

Canada is no match for the US, as Silicon Valley alone registered more acquisitions in America than any other city of the country both in terms of dollars and deals, as the number of its deals was three times to that of New York. Of these Silicon Valley acquisitions dozens of private companies were purchased by just Facebook and Google only and majority of their deals were talent acquisitions.

Besides this the CB Insights report also revealed that of these 2,200 acquisitions in the last year over three-quarters of the companies did not go for any venture capital. In fact they were sustained on proceeds and funding from private angels, family and friends. In addition to this, the report also noted that 30 percent of the deals counted for 80 percent of the full value of transactions.
