Rumours about Apple products are nothing new and recently the tech world was abuzz with reports that Apple would produce the next edition of the iPhone in the coming months an offer the device different colours like iPod Touch. That story gave way to rumors that Apple would succumb to calls for a larger smartphone and release a 5-inch iPhone. Although this may be a dream for many fans out their the rumour has been debunked by a new report which says that Apple will produce just two 4-inch editions of the iPhone during this year. This didn’t stop a Russian website, Appledigger.ru, from releasing a mock-up image of the 5-inch iPhone called “Math”.
The mock-up image shows a 4.8-inch display in a 5-inch iPhone, which features seven rows of icons. In addition, the mockup image also shows the larger iPhone in a new colour scheme of black/green instead of the black/slate. In order to develop such a large screen mobile Apple would need to make a few changes. iMore’s Rene Ritchie believes that to create a 5-inch iPhone, “The first way Apple could go to, or at least get closer to, 5-inches is simply by increasing the physical size of the current iPhone 5 display and keeping the 1136×640 pixel count the same. That would result in larger pixels, however, meaning lower pixel density.”
She also wrote that, “At 4 inches, the the 1136×640 iPhone 5 has the same pixel density as the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, or 326ppi. What happens if you stretch that out close to 5-inches? Interestingly, it goes to 264ppi. That’s the pixel density of the Retina iPad. It’s a density Apple already manufacturers, much like the shrunken iPad mini display was also a density Apple already manufactured, the 163 ppi of the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS.
