Cregle, the creator of the iPen, is now working to introduce the second generation of this stylus that will probably be called iPen 2. However, unlike its predecessor the iPen 2 will allow the users to write on both iPad and iMac, as the current model works with Apple’s tablet only.
In addition to this, iPen 2 will also be more sensitive to pressure, as it has up to 1,024 various pressure levels which enable users to get the same accuracy by holding it from any angle. According to Cregle, the iPen 2 will give the feel of a ballpoint because it requires less pressure to produce the necessary “ink” over the display of both iMac and iPad.
Other advantages that the iPen 2 will have over its predecessor is that Cregel is looking to develop its own calibration app, which will make things a lot easier for developers and they will be able to concentrate on other compatibility issues.
In order to bring the iPen 2 to real life, Cregle requires $360,000 funds before February 5, as the designers of this stylus have already commenced a Kickstarter project. And so far Cregle has been able to raise $21,584 funding from this campaign, which means that creators of iPen 2 still have to cover a long distance in order achieve the $360,000 task.
Nevertheless, considering the Kickstarter campaign of the very first iPen in 2011, Cregle successfully managed to raise sufficient finances to develop that stylus, so it seems that the group will be able to achieve their task for the second time as well.
For the time being, Cregle is looking to introduce three different versions of iPen 2, of which the entry level stylus will cost $99 and it will work with the iPad only. The second version will be Apple and iMac display enabled and it is priced at $149, whereas the third edition works with both iPad and iMac, it costs $199 and it will come with receivers for both tablet and computer.
The estimated time that Cregle has set for the delivery of iMac edition is June and for iPad edition is July. Besides this Cregle also has plans to use the funds generated from this Kickstarter campaign to develop new features for the iPen as well as to make a stand of this stylus for iMac and manufacture customised parts in mass quantity.
Furthermore, the company also have plans to make an iPen case for the potential iPad 5 that may see the light in March this year.
