The Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) recently released data that showed text messaging is still growing among wireless subscribers in Canada. The latest numbers reveal that Canadians send 270 million texts per day. That is approximately 24 billion text messages from April to June of 2012 or eight billion texts per month.
To get a little perspective on the growth of the communication medium, the CWTA noted that Canadians sent 78 billion text messages in 2011 and 56.4 billion in 2010. The latest numbers reveal that those numbers are set to be blown away with text sent in Canada set to reach 90 to 100 billion messages in 2012.
The Ottawa based CWTA is an industry organization that represents “cellular, PCS, messaging, mobile radio, fixed wireless and mobile satellite carriers.” They also look after the interest of vendors and firms that offer support services and products for the industry. Data and research like the one stated above are part of what the CWTA does to promote the industry and keep consumers and government up to date on the industry and its progress. The CWTA has established its self as the authority on Canadian wireless issues, developments and trends.
