A tremendous amount of progress has been made in speech related technology over the past few years, leading to tremendous breakthroughs in the field. One such feat is the result of collaborative effort between the University of Toronto and Microsoft. The two parties recently releases a research report confirming that they were successful in enabling people to “speak” Chinese (Mandarin) in their own voice without ever having learned the complex language.
The name of the technology behind this incredible feat is Deep Neural Networks and it works by imitating the operations of human brain, which allows much more discerning speech recognition says Microsoft’s Chief Research Officer, Richard Rashid.
With this new technology, the text from the subject’s speech are run through a transla
