Canadian start up, Desire2Learn, released a statement on September 25 that it had been included in Canada’s Top 100 Employers for Young People list. The Waterloo based firm is a global leader in cloud learning solutions for higher education, K-12 and large corporations and its inclusion in the list means that it is one of the best places for workers in the early stages of their career to get their feet wet. Canada’s Top Employers for Young People was first published in 2001 by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and has become a benchmark for the category.
Desire2Learn joined other Canadian firms on the list thanks to the time and money the firms spends on skills development for employees. The e-learning firm was also recognized for the numerous training programs being offered in-house and online. Desire2Learn’s monetary benefits for employees that reached educational goals was also pointed out by the editors of the list as a factor for their selection as a great place for young workers. Another interesting observation by the Canada’s Top Employers for Young People was the fact that co-op students at the start up could interact directly with executives making their experience at the firm memorable and worthwhile.
“Learning is not only what we sell to the world, it is what we practice within our own offices. Desire2Learn believes lifelong learning is imperative for employees to achieve their full potential. Young people will drive the Canadian technology community to ever greater heights and we have committed ourselves to internal educational initiatives and meaningful conversations with executives to stoke the passion to succeed,” said John Baker, Desire2Learn President and CEO.
Desire2Learn will be honored by the award at the 2012 New Grad Career Expo. The expo is Canada’s premiere career event and gives fresh grads a chance to meet and interact with Canada’s best employers and companies.
