Philadelphia- based Drexel University has given its students a surprise with a vending machine that dispenses Mac Books. The unexpected laptop surprise is delivered through a kiosk that has been custom designed for the University’s library. Current students have the ability to borrow one of the MacBooks at no charge for five hours.  They can use the laptop to study, read online articles, research or type out papers. The student gets charged $5 for for any hour past the initial free quota.

Laptop Access 24/7 can store up to a dozen 15-inch MacBooks. The vending machine is activated using a student ID to retrieve a laptop. The kiosk machine is active all day and night and has a touch screen for interaction. The unique product was developed for Drexel University by LaptopsAnytime, which is a company that specializes in designing and developing vending machines that dispense laptops and netbooks.

LaptopsAnytime system has several other higher education institutes that utilize its technology but the Drexel University  Laptop Access 24/7 MacBook vending machine is special because of its bespoke design. The vending machine seems to be working well and the university administrators are thinking about ordering another one for campus. This time they are considering using iPads instead of MacBooks.
