When the CEO of Apple Tim Cook joined the hosts Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg on stage at the All Things D’s D11 Conference, he revealed that the Cupertino-based company has added a new member to its staff. Cook said at the May 29th event that, “Lisa Jackson is joining Apple. She recently left the EPA, and she’ll now be coordinating these efforts across the company. She’ll report to me. I like her a lot, and she’s a chemical engineer by background. I actually forget the actual title, but she’ll continue to coordinate our environmental efforts across Apple.” After Cook this announcement at the conference, Jackson sent an email to POLITICO in which Ms. Lisa said that she was “impressed” with the environmental efforts of the California-based company and therefore is excited to join the multinational company. Here is what Jackson has exactly written:
“I’m incredibly impressed with Apple’s commitment to the environment and I’m thrilled to be joining the team,”
“Apple has shown how innovation can drive real progress by removing toxics from its products, incorporating renewable energy in its data center plans, and continually raising the bar for energy efficiency in the electronics industry,”
“I look forward to helping support and promote these efforts, as well as leading new ones in the future aimed at protecting the environment.”
On the other hand commenting on the hiring of Jackson, Gary Cook senior analyst of Greenpeace, and a strong critic of Apple, said to Forbes that acquiring the services of former chief of EPA is a “bold move” as it could bring more clean energy changes in the U.S.
He said, “Apple has made a bold move in hiring Lisa Jackson, a proven advocate with a track record of combating toxic waste and the dirty energy that causes global warming, two of Apple’s biggest challenges as it continues to grow,”
“Jackson can make Apple the top environmental leader in the tech sector by helping the company use its influence to push electric utilities and governments to provide the clean energy that both Apple and America need right now.”
Before joining Apple, Jackson remained with EPA from 2009 to 2013 after Barack Obama nominated her for this key post back in the winter of 2008. Now with the assistance of Jackson, Apple will look to make the world greener than before. So it could give a better environment to people living in area where Apple operates its business and production.
