Steven Sinofsky is a former Microsoft executive who had to leave his post last November when the software company cut back on a number of people from their duties. Sinofsky’s exist from Microsoft stunned many, as the former head of Windows development had to vacate his post just a few weeks after the launch of Windows 8. However, Sinofsky seems to be doing fine, as the ex-executive of Microsoft has now joined Andreessen Horowitz, a VC firm, in the capacity of a board partner. The news broke after Sinofsky revealed his new job in a blog post on Thursday, August 22nd.
Sinofsky also divulged in his blog post that he will not be joining Andreessen Horowitz as a full-time member. In fact, the role of entrepreneur as board partner means that he will “represent the firm on the boards of portfolio companies when the opportunities present themselves.” Apart from this Sinofsky will also continue his teaching job at Harvard Business School. However, VC world is completely new for the entrepreneur and therefore he had to do a lot of learning in order to grow in this field. Sinofsky himself admits this fact, as he had written in his latest blog that:
“I’m relatively new to the VC world and have a lot of learning to do—and I am very excited to do that. I can’t think of a better place to do this than a16z, as they share the commitment to learning and sharing that learning, for example through all the blog posts the GPs write. I first got to know Ben, Marc, and some of the over 70 people at the firm starting late last year. What was so cool to see was the commitment to fostering innovation, product creation, and working with product-focused entrepreneurs.”
In addition to this, Sinofsky also outlined some of the values, which according to him will greatly help the company. Here is what he had wrote:
“From the very first time I got to hang out with folks I saw things that reminded me of the values that contribute to all great product (and company) efforts:
Team effort – Scalable work that “goes big” requires a lot of people. Being part of a team that works to let each person contribute at their highest level is how the resulting whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
Long term – Sustainable efforts take more than one turn of the crank. The commitment to the long term that starts from building strong relationships through supporting entrepreneurs as they create sustainable products and businesses truly differentiates the a16z approach.”
