Vice President of Global Marketing solutions for Facebook, Carolyn Everson, told Business Insider that “monetization” is being introduced to the social networks recent acquisition Instagram. This will be a big change for the mobile photo-sharing social network app which has not run any advertisements ever since it launched. After Facebook bought the startup for $1 Billion many observers speculated that the sites design allowed for easy inclusion of marketing ads. Analysts on WallStreet had been positive that Facebook would put ads into Instagram after it acquired the firm and advertisers have also shown interest in focusing on the many users of the photo sharing service.

Business Insider interviewed Everson at the Ignition 2012 conference and to the first question of whether Facebook will put ads in Facebook she replied, “Eventually we’ll figure out a way to monetize Instagram.”

BI then asked her how long it would take them to “figure out” the monetization situation and she replied that, “Well, Instagram continues to grow incredibly fast and we’re still a very small team when you think about the amount of people they are reaching. There are many brands that use Instagram right now to try to get a feel for how to engage with their followers. We will definitely be figuring out a monetization strategy. When that will happen, I can’t comment, but it’s going to happen.”

Business Insider also clarified that Facebook has not said that there is any difference between monetization and ads which has led many to believe that advertisements will be on Instagram soon.
