Mashable reported on December 21 that Facebook is once again looking to update the design of Timeline. This might come as a surprise to many who have just become accustomed to the Timeline format. The report also stated that the changes to Facebook’s Timeline were “significant” and had already been seen on a smaller number of the world’s largest social network user’s accounts.

ABC News reported that one of its producers Timelines was one of the first that reflected the new changes on December 20. Thumbnail images of “Friends,” “Photos” and “Map” have been tossed out and the tabs have made a comeback in their place. The front page has also completely lost the Map feature which has been sent into the “More” tab.

A new tab is named “About” and shows all the information that Facebook has about you including a complete list of friends. The page also displays images but those can also be reached by using the Photos tab. Another change that was actually expected thanks to an earlier Facebook announcement, “subscribers” are now being referred to as “followers.” Interestingly, the number of Followers that are being displayed will not be shortened when it reaches the tens of thousands any more.

A Facebook spokesperson stated that, “This is a new design Facebook is testing with a small percentage of people to make navigating Timeline even easier.”

Facebook has been looking at number of different changes over the last few months. Previously, the social network experimented with putting all posts in one column on the Timeline but this has not become an update that every user has been given. Similarly, there is no guarantee or time frame for when the latest changes will take place or if they will even be implemented at all.
